Local contractor helps customers save up to 40 percent on energy bills

DJH Mechanical, partners with Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® to make homes more efficient and comfortable

Mt. Vernon, NY – September 30, 2008: For homeowners who pay high energy bills and are not getting the comfort they are paying for. DJH MECHANICAL of Mt. Vernon now offers services under the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program to help customers save more than $750 on energy bills every year and increase the comfort, health, and safety of their home.

With Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, DJH MECHANICAL can improve homes of any style or size to reduce energy use and costs by up to 40 percent. As a contractor participating in the program, DJH MECHANICAL is specially trained to use building science techniques and diagnostic equipment to test and treat homes for maximum performance. DJH MECHANICAL has been accredited by the Building Performance Institute (BPI), a national resource for building science technology that sets the standards for assessing and improving the energy performance of homes.

“As a BPI Accredited contractor offering Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, we look at the performance of the whole house, not just one room or single problem area. It’s a great service and value for homeowners,” Dennis Hazlehurst said.

Under the program, DJH MECHANICAL will perform a comprehensive home assessment to evaluate a home’s insulation and air infiltration levels, heating and cooling equipment efficiency, and the efficiency of windows, doors, appliances and lighting. Contractors also test ovens, water heaters and other equipment to make sure dangerous combustion gases like carbon monoxide are not leaking into the home.

When the assessment is complete, DJH MECHANICAL will identify what improvements can be made, the cost of making those improvements and what kinds of financial incentives, such as low-interest financing, are available to homeowners who decide to have the improvements made. Income-qualified applicants may be eligible to receive additional incentives through the Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.

DJH MECHANICAL, which offers comprehensive home assessments, adds that homeowners should contact a BPI Accredited contractor if experiencing any of the following problems:
  • high energy bills
  • drafty areas
  • rooms that do not heat or rooms that overheat
  • unexplained black stripes on walls, ceilings or floors
  • mold and mildew problems
  • moisture in attics and basements
  • condensation on windows
  • backdrafting combustion appliances
  • ice dams
  • poor air circulation or air quality
