Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
A drafty home, rooms that are too hot or too cold, and high-energy bills are all common issues for homeowners. A quality installation of a new heating or air conditioning system, buying replacement windows, or adding more insulation may fix part of the problem. But the way to better results is through an integrated "whole-house" approach that looks at your house as a system.

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, a national program from the U.S. EPA and U.S. DOE, offers a comprehensive, whole-house approach to improving energy efficiency and comfort at home, while helping to protect the environment.

The Comprehensive Home Energy Assessment
The Comprehensive Home Assessment has two phases. The first phase consists of the participating BPI Accredited Contactor taking inventory of the current conditions of your home. Including the following:
  • Health and Safety (Carbon Monoxide Levels/moisture problems)
  • Air Infiltration rates.
  • Insulation levels.
  • Domestic Hot Water System.
  • Heating and Cooling System.
  • Central cooling systems / Heat Pumps.
  • Lighting and Major Appliances
  • Digital controls

The second phase consists of the participating contractor developing a work scope for proposed improvements, including costs and energy savings estimate.

The Comprehensive Home Energy Assessment is done as follows:
Participating contractors use a number of diagnostic tools during the fist phase of the Comprehensive Home Assessment. Some the tools used by the contractor are:
  • Carbon Monoxide Analyzer. Important Health and Safety tool.
  • Blower door: Measure the air tightness of a home and aids in identifying areas where air leakage is occurring.
  • Duct Blaster: measures how “leaky” the ductwork is in a home.

The Final Report after the Home Energy Assesment.
Once all of the data has been collected, the information is transferred to NYSERDA’s computer modeling software to generate a detailed report regarding your home’s performance so you are able to take advantage of the programs and incentives offered by the State and Federal government tax credit and rebates, and of course the saving in your fuel utilization.
These are the incentives available to homeowners.

Option #1 - Energy Star Financing. Low interest, unsecure loan for 1 to 2 family owner occupied homes.

Option #2 - New York Energy $mart Loan Fund. Low-interest loans offered through local participating lenders.

Option #3 - Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Work Scope Incentive. Available to income-qualified homeowners, as part of the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® commitment to making energy efficiency affordable to all New Yorkers.

Option #4 - Homeowner Financing Incentive. Available to homeowners who choose not to use program financing options 1,2, or 3
